Housing (Scotland) Act 2014 commencement

The Commencement Order for the social housing aspects of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2014 was laid in Parliament on 15 May.

The order covers a number of aspects including:
  • Allocations and suspensions (from May 2019)
  • Anti-social behaviour (from May 2019)
  • Assignation, subletting, joint tenancies and succession (from November 2019).

We are currently working with Craigforth housing consultants to develop new practice guidance for social landlords on allocations and suspensions which we expect to publish in the Autumn. This will help landlords ensure that their allocations policies comply with the Act before the May 2019 deadline.

Our briefing, published in 2014, is still available for CIH members on our website if you need a reminder of any of the provisions in the act.
